The Raffael Projekt was established in the early 1990s at the Institut für Kunstgeschichte of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster and, together with the Kunsthistorische Institut at the Julius-Maximilian-Universität in Würzburg, has devoted itself to making Raphael's pictorial work assessible on the basis of the present state of scholarly debate and research. The Raffael Projekt is publishing a catalogue raisonné that includes all the artist's paintings, frescoes and tapestry designs. Each work is analysed in depth, with reference also to possible preparatory drawings, technical investigations and its impact through copies and variations. The catalogue is designed to provide a convenient research gateway not only for specialists in museums and universities, the art market and students of art history, but also for interested members of the general public.
